Woman Jailed for Sex with Boy
PORTLAND, MAINE -- A 36-year-old North Yarmouth woman will spend nine
months in jail for having sex with a 14-year-old boy. Even though Ms.
L. pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor, she appeared surprised
by the sentence. She had requested lengthy probation with no additional
jail time. But Justice Carl Bradford said he wanted to send a message. The
judge said the case was not about a boy's rite of passage, but about
victimization... and it doesn't matter, he said, whether the victim is a
boy or a girl.
