Fathers and Human Reproduction: Why We Have Children

For human fathers, the work of raising a child is part of reproduction

It is a cold, hard fact. If you don't reproduce, you have committed genetic suicide.

Look at the big picture. You are born, you live a while, if you are lucky you get old, then you die.

You pass your unique mix of genes on. If you fail to do this, then in a genetic sense, you have self-destructed. You are a dead end. If you willingly choose any path except that which guarantees the survival of your offspring, then you have committed genetic suicide just as certainly as if you had shot yourself in the head before reaching reproductive age.

You have a lot of unique information on your x-chromosome. Your x-chromosome will be passed only to your daughters.

You have other unique information on your y-chromosome. Your y-chromosome will be passed only to your sons.

If you fail to have both daughters and sons, then some of your genes reach a dead end, and through your action (or lack of action) they die.

The world is filling up. So do we have the right to procreate? Overpopulation is not because of people like you having a couple of kids. You and your mate having two kids is actually slightly below replacement level. Overpopulation is the result of other people having twelve kids. You can do your part to help by just having a couple of kids. Not having any kids at all makes you the sort of fool that shoots himself just because there are too many people in the world.

Human reproduction is unique. Humans must nurture their young in order to guarantee the survival of their genetic code. It takes years, and we all have a unique nurturing style, philosophy, a way of living that we pass on to our young. It is called family. We invented government to secure our families. We owe no allegiance to any government which fails to fulfill this role or worse yet, threatens it.

A bull can mate and walk away, but a human father who walks away from his offspring leaves it prey to a host of hazards. His progeny is far more likely to be successful and prolific if he puts years of effort into raising it. For human fathers, the work of raising a child is part of reproduction.

Real men, successful men, the men whose genes will florish, are those men who bond with, protect and nourish their young. They don't let anyone or anything take it from them, for to do so is to put at risk their genetic code. Not a woman, not the state, absolutely no one will take their progeny from them. Period.

Those who accept the authority of anyone to take away their children risk committing genetic suicide. They are weak, unmanly men who can neither protect their young nor provide parental continuity. For we don't just pass on our genetic code. Our instinct guides our parenting, and passes on an individual way of life that is tailored to the survival of our own unique genetic code. Our offspring in turn inherits from us a unique instinct that is tuned to our own.

The man who fails at fathering fails at life itself, and there is no greater failure possible. He is a loser in the ultimate sense of the word. This is not just philosophy, this is a cold hard fact of nature.

So procreate, love, protect your young, and know that it is in your nature to do so. Your role as father isn't done until you bounce that healthy grandchild on your knee.
